First off, do this at your own risk. There are no guarantees.
Secondly, think big picture. The goal is to back up your wallet. To do that, all you need to do is make a 2nd copy of the most important file in the wallet. That file is the wallet.dat file AND keep it some place safe. Everything else can be replaced. That file can't. You want to copy it and stick it some place safe, like on a USB or a separate computer (preferably one that's offline).
The best way to back things up is to do it before you even have any coins. If you've just started out, great. If you already have BAD in your wallet, you should be fine going ahead anyway. If your address is empty, and just for checking purposes, go into your empty wallet and create an address or two. Write down the addresses or copy/paste and save them somewhere. Those will be used later to verify things were backed up correctly.
Now, the goals here are to (a) backup the wallet, (b) restore the wallet, and (c) verify that we've done it correctly.
(a)-backup
You've got to find the wallet.dat file. It should be in the folder called .badcoin
The dot in front means it's hidden, but that hidden folder should be in your home folder in Linux.
Too see it, in a GUI file manager, go to your home folder and hit CTRL+H. That toggles hidden/shown folders and files. The .badcoin folder should be seen when you toggle it. Open the folder, open the "wallets" folder inside. The wallet.dat file should be there visibly.
Right-click and copy the wallet.dat file, then left-click in a new spot and paste it there. You have now have two identical copies. I'd change this new one's name to backup_wallet.dat.
Keep that backup_wallet.dat file safe, maybe on a USB drive. This is just what it now says, the backup for your wallet. Once in a safe place, part (a)-backup is complete. Keep the backup_wallet.dat file handy for now though, because we're going to copy it one more time.
(b)-restore the wallet
Make double sure the new backup_wallet.dat file is in a separate and safe place.
Trash all the old badcoin folders and files. We're going to start over (again, the backup_wallet.dat file is still there and safe, right?).
Now, totally start over. Go the the BADcoin github at github.com/badcoin-net/Badcoin/releases and download the Linux version. Install it (how?: badcoin.boards.net/thread/17/set-badcoin-wallet).
Then navigate back to the hidden .badcoin folder. Go into the wallets folder there, and you'll see a wallet.dat file. But, this is a brand new one that you just installed. This is not the one you want because it's empty. We want the backup_wallet.dat because it has the original data. You can trash it. So, rename copy the backup_wallet.dat file and paste it in the .badcoin folder. Change the name so that it's wallet.dat
That should be all there is to it.
(c)-verify it's been done correctly
To check it, re-open the wallet. If you had BAD or transactions in there before, that should be reflected again. If you had an empty wallet before, go to "Receive" and check your addresses. If you see the same addresses, everything is good. As long as you have the backup_wallet.dat file, you can restore your wallet going forward.
