You can mine BADcoin on Windows using just the CPU, that is, on a regular laptop or desktop. Even old ones should work. Don't be intimidated by mining. It's easy.
Steps to CPU mine BADcoin on Windows:
1. Get your BADcoin wallet going first if you haven't already.
Here is a shortcut link to the BADcoin wallet software on GitHub where you get the wallet. For help setting up your wallet...
Go to badcoin.net/ and info is there or in the "General Discussion" section of this forum.
(a) BADcoin.net references this document with links and instructions: BADcoin mining doc from badcoin.net | Same doc on archive.org
(b) BADcoin Forum: "How to set up a BADcoin wallet" forum thread.
2. Let your wallet sync.
However, you might be able to do the next steps while it's syncing.
3. Create a BADcoin address.
In the BADcoin core wallet, go to "File" --> "Receiving addresses" --> "New" --> then type in a label (call it anything you wish, this is optional, but helpful) --> click "Copy". You're now ready to paste your BAD address.
4. Download the mining software.
The BADcoin.net document in step #1 sends you to a "mega.nz" download. Understand, it works fine, but there are other options too. Some options (choose one):
(a) Mega.nz - Following is the link to the file listed on the BADcoin.net website: mega.nz/file/1N8gHAKQ#KGmkS9TB0TywFCvbEw8OZR1H_Z7dKdoE5pmJnjxdVTc
(b) Poolen.io - This is the mining pool BAD currently is using. This software works about the same as the mega.nz above, but is prettier with colors, and gives a little more info.
- Poolen Documentation has good info
- Poolen Download offers alternative mining software. Source: poolen.io/downloads/bad-cpuminer.zip
5. "Install" the mining software.
You really don't install it, you just unzip the folder that you downloaded. Below is the folder from mega.nz:
6. Customize the .bat file.
(a) The .bat file will be your "start" button to begin mining. Choose one to try. It might work, it might not. This will be a little try-until-it-works task.
(b) You'll want to edit the .bat file. Right-click it and open/edit it in Notepad. For example, I chose the "Sandybridge..." one which looks like this when opened:
minerd-avx.exe -a yescrypt -o stratum+tcp://206.189.78.140:7032 -u BPRTt3GjrApDHruFu97UvNZiKCFrKuUxXJ -p x
For CPU mining, make four changes to the .bat file:
- In front of the "a", type in one of the .exe names. Again, this will be try-until-it-works. I chose "minerd-sse2.exe", so I added that in front of the a, no quotations.
- replace the "206.189.78.140:7032" with pool.poolen.io:6233
- paste in your BAD receiving address that you made earlier
- replace the "x" with c=BAD-yes
(c) Save.
So, that it now looks like this:
minerd-sse2.exe -a yescrypt -o stratum+tcp://pool.poolen.io:6233 -u your_BADcoin_receiving_address -p c=BAD-yes
7. Start mining.
Go the the .bat file you just edited/saved, double-click it to start the miner. If you see information like the the graphic below, great! You're mining.
Not working? Go to #8.
8. Tweak things.
There is a good chance your miner will not work on the first try. It might do nothing, it might start, then quickly stop. If that's the case...
(a) Try a different .bat file.
(b) Try a different .exe file.
Both steps are simply trial-and-error until it works.
9. Optimize things.
(a) Once it's working, you may wish to try all of the .exe miners to see which one gives you the fastest hash rate.
(b) If you feel the miner is eating up too much of your CPU, you can limit it. You can add "--threads=2" to the end of your script, no quotation marks. This is telling the miner to use 2 threads only. So, if you have 4 cores, it will use half of your CPU power only. You can choose any number of cores. It might look like below:
minerd-sse2.exe -a yescrypt -o stratum+tcp://pool.poolen.io:6233 -u your_BADcoin_receiving_address -p c=BAD-yes --threads=2
10. Receive your BADcoin
(a) The poolen.io pool pays out about every three hours. You can go to pool.poolen.io/, look in the top right corner, and see a countdown timer to the next payout.
(b) poolen.io also has a nice graph for how you're doing. Go on the pool.poolen.io page, click "Wallet" up top, then add the BADcoin address you're using to mine to. With a little time, you should start to see graphs and stats showing how much you've mined.
(c) Check your BADcoin wallet. You should see incoming BAD to the address you set up earlier.
